After a 14 month battle with cancer, Columbus Junior Sebastian Ortiz passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his parents and loved ones on December 29, 2016,  He was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a very aggressive form of cancer that attacks muscle tissue and spreads microscopically.

Sebastian was competitive cross-country runner at Christopher Columbus High School. He was diagnosed with cancer 2 days before the regional championship race, For Sebastian, running had always been something that brought him closer to his father.  Sebastian’s persistence and support from his family, friends, and coaches helped to  alleviate a lot of the pain throughout his tough battle with cancer.
